Day 2

Well today was a better day.....but still overwhelming.
I shadowing a care aide today and assisted her in her duties. This involoved personal care and transfering...and some other skills.
I jumped right in and helped where I could. I felt awesome about how much I did today. I even got a person bathed on my own :)
We were told we had 2 days to shadow and learn. We didnt need to jump in until we were comfortable. I just decided to start right away.
At the end of the shift "apparently" a couple of the care aides told our instructors some of us were looking disinterested and not doing much...I better not be one they were talking about!!!!!!!!!!!
She wouldnt tell us, she just addressed us generally. BUT it totally deflated me..thinking what if....grrrr.
Apparently women are gossipy and if one says something they all say it.
I am just annoyed.
After I thought I had a killer day....ah well.
our instructor thinkgs we are doing great and told us to take it with a grain of salt...but still. it is not fair for me.

Ok enough of that haha.
I think in the long run this will be such a great experience. After what I did today it will be amazing to see myself in 6 weeks :)

And for term 3 marks, I picked them up today. All but one (but I know its around the same as its the easy class)
94%, 95% and 95%. yippee!!!!!
I am truely amazed. I did not think I was as strong this semester, but I was wrong.
I am proud!

First Day

And I am overwhelmed. Boy!
It was a lot of information in one day. It feels like we are just being thrown into it....Already tomorrow we are shadowing a care aide to see how they do things...and as she said be prepared to get our hands dirty.
We start off with one client week 1 and by week 3 will move to 2 if ready...that is total care.
It is extended care, so all older adults with many problems.
I am still very nervous.
I know it will just take some getting used to, and practice....its just intimidating right now.

The kids had to get up at 6 to go to the babysitters. Poor Arianna said she was tired and didnt want to get out of bed. thank goodness its only 6 times total where they have to go that early! Other times it works out that brandon will drop them off.
I still think we need to invest in car seats for his car too!

I am happy that it is only 4 day weeks...its gonna be work.
I get a long weekend coming up fri-mon. yay 3 day week lol.

This practicum involves journals, care plans and research on each client (3 total) sigh....my nights will not be free lol.

Please think of me, and wish my luck. starting tomorrow I am a real nurse at langley hospital!

Term 2 Done

And boy this final week has been so stressful. I was beyond burnt out!!!!!
I am happy to be done, and to have a break from the studying. I am proud to say I dont "think" I got a mark below 90 this term :) YAY.
I pick up final marks on tuesday.

We learned so much, and its time to put it into practice. I start my extended care rotation on monday. eek. I am really nervous, as its real nursing stuff (injections and all).
I am sure it will take a week or so get used to it, but I am sure I will get into the swing of things. I hope it goes well!
I also get 2 weeks OFF after that...yay. It will be a break from it ALL. I am thinking...and hoping...maybe I can got and visit my brother in calgary for a few days...maybe air miles will cover it ;) It would be nice to go see how he is doing out there.
We will see.

I went out to the bar last night with my fellow nurses....:)
I had a GREAT TIME. I was so nice to let loose and not worry about studying. The kids slept over at grandmas so I was able to sleep in. It was soooooo nice hehe.
Now I have a free day..wow what to do....something just for ME. hmmmm...maybe my hair done....;)

Well thats all from here. things are great. I only have one more semester in school, and the rest is all on the job. its going by too fast!!!! Scary...but exciting.

Las Vegas

Well not that second term is done, I have time to sit and relax! Well for 2 days before practicum starts.

Anyways, Las Vegas was awesome.
But for sure it is a big party town. I am so happy we stayed at Mandalay Bay as it seemed for of a tropical resort, then it did a las vegas hotel. The pool was amazing! They had a great sandy beach.
The days were filled with fun for the kids and I was lucky to have nights to go out. Brandon let me go out and enjoy the town. I had never been to Vegas so it was nice that he let me experience it.
The one thing I wanted to do was go on the roller coaster at new york. It was so fun! My brother and I waited over an hour in lice, but it was so worth it hehe.
I only gambled on night...and didnt win hehe. So I gave that up fast! haha.
I enjoyed seeing around half of the strip. I would need more days to have seen it all. There was some really nice hotels!
I was able to have a star sighting at ceasars palace, which was the trouble maker lindsay lohan. haha. She was shopping for shoes!
Got some cheap shopping done, I loved that. Wish I had more time, but didnt want to spend too much times shopping while in Vegas.
My parents vow renewal was so great. The elvis was amazing. They looked great, and we all had a great time. It was so nice to be able to be there and participate in this with them!
And a nice break from school!!!
It was a fast trip, but a fun times. The whole family was together, which does not happen often.

Back and time for Finals

Dont have much time as its final week for me...eeeek.
I am studying 65 drugs for an exam wednesday.
We had a great time in Vegas, it was what I needed to recharge!!
I will post some pics next weekend when the chaos of this week is over.
I start my second practicum in extended care next monday. I work monday-thursday 7-3 in langley hospital. Nice and close to home again :)
Back to studying...wish me luck, it will be a long hard week!

Could this be it?

James is on day 3 of wearing underwear all day.
He has had no accidents this weekend.
I am hoping this means he is going to stick to it. We have been trying for a long time now, and he refused.
Not only that he had no control and would pee everywhere!
He is doing great, we are so proud.
Lets hope this is the end of diapers!!!

Case Study 2 over

I am so glad to be done the case study for second semester. They are just so intimidating to do. This time was MUCH easier I must admit. And I came out with 99% so I cannot complain!!!! I am beat though. I actually had today off from school, and the kids still went to the babysitters so I could get some stuff done.
It did not last long, James has an ear infection. I went and picked him up and took him to the doctor. I guess after last nights being awake most the night, I should have clued in!
Mommy and James just woke up from a nap.....

I went and bought a couple more pairs of scrubs today. My next practicum starts in 3 weeks and it is 7 weeks long. I dont want to be doing laundry every 2 days!

One more week until Las Vegas. I am soooo excited. Going to make sure I am well prepared to not fall behind in the school work though. I would like the time to relax while I am there too.

Not much else new...busy in school, enjoying that summer weather has finally arrived!

Happy Canada Day!

I have been sick for the past couple days....along with the kids (James started it..I think it was the mirror he licked while in a dressing room that got him lol)
And now Brandon has it.
thank goodness this is a long weekend and I have an extra day off, cause I need it! Next week I had the dreaded case studies....
School is going ok...lots of drama, almost like high school haha. I am glad I know of it, but am not involved. I am way beyond that.
I have 29 more days at I will be done second semester and on my first day of practicum. eeeeeek. this is going way too fast.
It is a long one, 7 weeks I think in an extended care unit. Lots of work, and possibly dying. :(
On a exciting note, my lab instructor told me I should go come back to the college and teach!!!! (I have to work 1 year first) or I could be a practicum monitor in the mean time. I was SOOO honored to have her say that.
I really think it may be something I am interested in one day. It would be fun to teach part time, a couple classes. And not to mention over $30 an hour wouldnt hurt (she was nice enough to share that with me hehe) So I am going to work my year....maybe have a baby...and go and teach!!!!
She told me the instructors thought I would be good at it, an are very fond of me :)
What a good opportunity this whole school thing had turned out for me. that is 2 jobs lined up!!

So the kids are doing ok. James is still stumbling through potty training.,...must be a boy thing. Arianna was done in a few days. HE popped in his underwear today..Arianna never ever did that. I threw them away lol. it was too mushed in there hehehehe. eww.

Yesterday the kids and I went strawberry picking with grandma. it was a ton of fun. there is nothing better then a strawberry freshly picked. mmmm so red and sweet.

Today we went on our first family flight!!!! The kids in the back seat. It was amazing. we went towards the rockies. It was breath taking. We were up around 6500 feet. the kids LOVED it. I think Arianna is gonna be a pilot :)
I get a little nervous...but made it through. Being a little sick still it hurt my ears.

This afternoon we went to the langley canada day fair. It was so fun for the kids. And at $5 a kid for unlimited rides, you could not go wrong. the kids loved the little swings and the bouncy things (they had like 7 different ones) James got his face painted and made a couple canada day hats for them. Arianna was busy with daddy in the bouncy things hehe.
We are all beat and tired after that! I have pics of the kids on the rides too hehehe.
