another week done. It is getting better as time goes...but also heavier! They add more residents and duties as the weeks go by.
On monday I will be 3 clients total care.
I gave my first injection on thursday! It was really fun lol.
A resident was having stomach pains and was vomiting. She was allergic to gravol, so I got to give her an IM injection of another drug to help stop it.
I have been getting practice on wound care....its fun, but not to pleasant to look at!
I have an excellent midterm review...with some exceeds standards :)
Arianna is just getting over being sick. No idea what was wrong, she just kept spiking fevers at night.
We are getting ready for Pats wedding. It is coming up sp fast. I had to take my dress in to the tailors to take it down...it was way too big.
It will look great when done!
Brandon was actually home a lot this weekend! That is a rare occasion. I was so nice to have sone family time. we went last night on a walk and picked black berries. apparently I am making a pie..lol

Some Vegas

Arianna is 4

tired

With the lack of blog updates can u tell I am tired? hehe
Arianna turned 4 on wednesday. I still cannot believe she is a year away from school...wow.
She had a good birthday. We took her and her friends family to chucky cheese. They had fun and ate a lot of pizza. She got some great gifts for her birthday....mostly relating to princesses. hehe...
I had a good week at the hospital. I am taking on more and more everyday. I am the only one doing meds right now :) I guess she trusts me!
I am having a ton of fun. I love to be busy. SO much so, she told to slow down and relax some times haha.
I really know that nursing is the career for me. Its just natural!
I had my soon to be sister in laws stag last night. It was a sleepover. so not much sleeping and too much drinking haha.
I am beyond tired today, will be going to be with the kiddies haha.
Brandon, once again, is at the airport. It is starting to make me a bit sad the amount he is not around now. It seems he has 2 full times jobs...I am just afraid it could be a bad thing in the long run. we defiantely need to see him home more...for many reasons.
Arianna is running a fever today. poor girly.
this week my babysitter is on vacation, so they will be at grandmas and grandpas a lot....poor them having to get up early with my early rising kiddies hehe.

I got to do some skills at work this week, that I had not done on a real person lol. I did wound care and bandage changing and applying a nitro patch. I look forward to doing the new things. Still nervous at times.....
I have a great instructor on practicum. she is such a great teacher! I am learning so much.
I get 2 weeks off in sept. which I am really looking forward too...hehe

Well time to get some food in the kids. Brandon wont be home til 8 or so...sigh.

Day 2

Well today was a better day.....but still overwhelming.
I shadowing a care aide today and assisted her in her duties. This involoved personal care and transfering...and some other skills.
I jumped right in and helped where I could. I felt awesome about how much I did today. I even got a person bathed on my own :)
We were told we had 2 days to shadow and learn. We didnt need to jump in until we were comfortable. I just decided to start right away.
At the end of the shift "apparently" a couple of the care aides told our instructors some of us were looking disinterested and not doing much...I better not be one they were talking about!!!!!!!!!!!
She wouldnt tell us, she just addressed us generally. BUT it totally deflated me..thinking what if....grrrr.
Apparently women are gossipy and if one says something they all say it.
I am just annoyed.
After I thought I had a killer day....ah well.
our instructor thinkgs we are doing great and told us to take it with a grain of salt...but still. it is not fair for me.

Ok enough of that haha.
I think in the long run this will be such a great experience. After what I did today it will be amazing to see myself in 6 weeks :)

And for term 3 marks, I picked them up today. All but one (but I know its around the same as its the easy class)
94%, 95% and 95%. yippee!!!!!
I am truely amazed. I did not think I was as strong this semester, but I was wrong.
I am proud!

First Day

And I am overwhelmed. Boy!
It was a lot of information in one day. It feels like we are just being thrown into it....Already tomorrow we are shadowing a care aide to see how they do things...and as she said be prepared to get our hands dirty.
We start off with one client week 1 and by week 3 will move to 2 if ready...that is total care.
It is extended care, so all older adults with many problems.
I am still very nervous.
I know it will just take some getting used to, and practice....its just intimidating right now.

The kids had to get up at 6 to go to the babysitters. Poor Arianna said she was tired and didnt want to get out of bed. thank goodness its only 6 times total where they have to go that early! Other times it works out that brandon will drop them off.
I still think we need to invest in car seats for his car too!

I am happy that it is only 4 day weeks...its gonna be work.
I get a long weekend coming up fri-mon. yay 3 day week lol.

This practicum involves journals, care plans and research on each client (3 total) sigh....my nights will not be free lol.

Please think of me, and wish my luck. starting tomorrow I am a real nurse at langley hospital!

Term 2 Done

And boy this final week has been so stressful. I was beyond burnt out!!!!!
I am happy to be done, and to have a break from the studying. I am proud to say I dont "think" I got a mark below 90 this term :) YAY.
I pick up final marks on tuesday.

We learned so much, and its time to put it into practice. I start my extended care rotation on monday. eek. I am really nervous, as its real nursing stuff (injections and all).
I am sure it will take a week or so get used to it, but I am sure I will get into the swing of things. I hope it goes well!
I also get 2 weeks OFF after that...yay. It will be a break from it ALL. I am thinking...and hoping...maybe I can got and visit my brother in calgary for a few days...maybe air miles will cover it ;) It would be nice to go see how he is doing out there.
We will see.

I went out to the bar last night with my fellow nurses....:)
I had a GREAT TIME. I was so nice to let loose and not worry about studying. The kids slept over at grandmas so I was able to sleep in. It was soooooo nice hehe.
Now I have a free day..wow what to do....something just for ME. hmmmm...maybe my hair done....;)

Well thats all from here. things are great. I only have one more semester in school, and the rest is all on the job. its going by too fast!!!! Scary...but exciting.

Las Vegas

Well not that second term is done, I have time to sit and relax! Well for 2 days before practicum starts.

Anyways, Las Vegas was awesome.
But for sure it is a big party town. I am so happy we stayed at Mandalay Bay as it seemed for of a tropical resort, then it did a las vegas hotel. The pool was amazing! They had a great sandy beach.
The days were filled with fun for the kids and I was lucky to have nights to go out. Brandon let me go out and enjoy the town. I had never been to Vegas so it was nice that he let me experience it.
The one thing I wanted to do was go on the roller coaster at new york. It was so fun! My brother and I waited over an hour in lice, but it was so worth it hehe.
I only gambled on night...and didnt win hehe. So I gave that up fast! haha.
I enjoyed seeing around half of the strip. I would need more days to have seen it all. There was some really nice hotels!
I was able to have a star sighting at ceasars palace, which was the trouble maker lindsay lohan. haha. She was shopping for shoes!
Got some cheap shopping done, I loved that. Wish I had more time, but didnt want to spend too much times shopping while in Vegas.
My parents vow renewal was so great. The elvis was amazing. They looked great, and we all had a great time. It was so nice to be able to be there and participate in this with them!
And a nice break from school!!!
It was a fast trip, but a fun times. The whole family was together, which does not happen often.

Back and time for Finals

Dont have much time as its final week for me...eeeek.
I am studying 65 drugs for an exam wednesday.
We had a great time in Vegas, it was what I needed to recharge!!
I will post some pics next weekend when the chaos of this week is over.
I start my second practicum in extended care next monday. I work monday-thursday 7-3 in langley hospital. Nice and close to home again :)
Back to studying...wish me luck, it will be a long hard week!
